Dublin

DeskEvent in DublinThe DESK event taking place in Dublin from 29 September to 2 October 2009 during the week of the 2nd referendum on the Lisbon Treaty was the first DESK event within the framework of our current project Europe@myDesk.

As will be the case with all DESK events the activities were split into three parts. The first one – Europe@mySchoolDesk – was dedicated to a public debate “The Lisbon Treaty: yes or no?”, which was organised at the University College of Dublin. The speakers, Owen Rooney (founder of Bloggers for Europe), Edward Gaffney (academic researcher), Pierce Farrell and Patrick Jackman (founders of BetterthanLisbon), presented their view and answered the questions of the public. The debate was really lively and informative.

The second part – Europe@myNewsDesk – was a workshop on youth journalism and the new web technology (effective use of the new media tools: blogs, facebook, twitter…). We had the pleasure to listen to Eoghan Dockrell (Youth Media for Europe), who spoke about his own experience as young journalist in Ireland during the EP elections campaign.

The third part – Europe@myOfficeDesk – was a short introduction to basic project management skills with a special focus on campaigning. Given the particular historic opportunity to be present in Dublin on the day of the referendum concerning all EU-citizens, the participants of the event had a possibility to experience how campaigning on the streets of Dublin looks like.
The DESK event was a real successful thanks to the great work of all the organisers and especially the participants. Thank you all!
