Between 21 and 24 October 2009 the third Desk Event within the project Europe@myDesk took place in the Netherlands. It was organised in co-operation of JEF-Belgium and JEF-Europe. The three-day event was held in The Hague and Leiden and it managed to attract the attention of 60 young people.
The first day was dedicated to training on youth journalism and the use of new web technology. Following a short introductory presentation on the Europe@myDesk project and JEF Jon Worth, former president of JEF-Europe and expert in web technology gave a presentation on this topic, including useful tips and tricks how to make best use of the available internet technology in promoting an organisation’s activities and projects.
On the second day we visited the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences in Leiden, where we spoke with students about the European Union and the possibilities it offers to young people. The students we spoke to were mostly not aware of all the possibilities and find our intervention very useful.
The last day was dedicated to the workshop on project management. The majority of participants was new to organising projects and events and wanted to get more details about project management in general and financial management in particular, therefore the content of the workshop was more focused on this letter aspect. After the two digital presentations participants were divided into groups and were asked to develop their own projects, including finding possible funders and developing a strategy for their implementation.
A big thank you goes to JEF-Belgium, Jon Worth and all the participants for their active engagement.
