124JEF Europe, in partnership with JEF Slovakia organised a DeskEvent from the 27th to the 30th January.

With 2 interventions in 2 High schools in Nitra and some workshops in Bratislava, the team reached different target groups and young people. The workshop on Project Management was held by Andrea Tittelová and Iohanna Gonzalez.

The 2nd workshop on Youth Journalism and the New web technology was held by Lizbeth Luna-Victoria, a young Peruvian journalist. She graduated with honours at the School of Communications Arts and Sciences at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. She also has done additional studies in areas such as Human Resources, Marketing, Projects Designing and Development, Corporate Social Responsibility, Psychology and Education, in various countries like Chile, Argentina and Spain. Her work experience includes corporate communication strategies with major international companies. In 2007, she won a journalistic national contest about climate change.

After a presentation (http://prezi.com/j4zbuldsh86f/ ) to present the different media and another one to give some hints to write articles, the participants were invited to play a role game and to write an article about it. The participants presented the article to Lizbeth who then evaluated and made some remarks to improve it.
The aim of the workshop was show the youth the importance of being active in the society, and how, like that, all of us could build a better democracy. That chance is as far as a click with the new spaces that Internet brings us. Facebook, Twitter, Blogs and YouTube (just for cite few examples) empower the citizen and become them information producers, in other words, journalists.

“We also try to rescue the responsibility of this power because they have to realize the impact that they could get”, said one of the exponents. Following this, the importance of the objectivity, simple language and the G-Point (Great Point) were the base for start to write the articles.
