During the Training days organised in partnership with JEF-France, some public debates were proposed in order to give inputs for future articles in the framework of Europe@myNewsDesk.
One debate was focused on the 20th anniversary of the fall of Berlin wall with the following speakers:
- Friedrich-Carl Bruns, Consul General of Germany in Bordeaux
- Jean-Charles Leygues, President of European Movement Gironde
- François-Charles Mougel, Professor of History at Sciences Po Bordeaux
- Dominika Rutkowska, Secretary General of the Association of Polish Students and Graduates
- Jean Verrando, President of JEF-Bordeaux
This debate led to an article on a European topic by local youth volunteers for www.taurillon.org (French version of thenewfederalist.eu) : http://www.taurillon.org/Good-bye-Yalta.
The second debate dealt with the role of the Council of Europe with Jean Petaux, political scientist. It gave the young public the keys in order to know better this institution and to be able later to report on its activities.
Two kinds of activities were organized in the framework of Europe@mySchoolDesk :
- The third day a group of volunteers visited a secondary school in Arcachon and presented the European Union and the possibilities it offers to citizens and especially young people. The presentation was made by using a PowerPoint in order to create interactive discussions (cf. attached PowerPoint). The group of volunteers was composed of local young volunteers and foreign ones (one EVS, some Erasmus students).
- Two debates in small groups were also organized in order to debate the European process (one debate on the future enlargements of EU, the other one on the Union for the Mediterranean).
In the context of Europe@myOfficeDesk, a part of the event gave young participants the opportunity to think about future youth projects they will have the opportunity to develop at their local level. Two kinds of projects were discussed:
- How to motivate young people to engage for European cause?
- How to reach MEP in order to share with them the youth concerns about EU?
